CELEBRATE

PURANDARA DASA JAYANTHI 2011

Purandara Dasa (1484 – 1564) was one of the prominent composers of Carnatic music and is regarded as the father of Carnatic music. He composed songs in Kannada and Sanskrit. His compositions inspired common people to learn and follow music as a path of Bhakthi towards the Lord.

Portland Kannada Koota invites classical musicians (vocalists/instrumentalists) teachers and students to participate in the Purandara Dasa Jayanthi celebration. Kannada compositions by Purandara Dasa,Kanaka Dasa, and other Vaggeyakaras in the Carnatic or Hindustani classical styles are welcome.
